Question:

We filled our inground pool to the proper water level and then removed the winter pool cover. The water is a greenish brown with slimmy white chunks and has a strong odor. At first I thought that it was a sewer type smell but now I believe it to be more of an acidic odor. We have never experienced this problem in the 20 years we have had a pool. Any thoughts on what this might be??

Answer:

The greenbrown color would indicate some type of algae. The white chunks could also be algae or a type of water mold. These would be treated very similarly.
