Question:

Opening my pool, shocked it, its no longer green, but its not clear. It’s a dark blue and cant see through it. I have been adding calcium to increase the water hardness, which was low. Im guessing the calcium has nothing to do with the color and it’s probally the algae. The calcium instructions says it has to been done by adding 1/3 at a time and wait 6 hours between adding more. What i’m wondering is can I add an algaecide before I am done this calcium process. I’m a little impatient and want to see results. The Ph and alkalinity are testing within range

Answer:

Adding algaecide before the calcium is fully adjusted should not be a problem. However, do not add more chlorine until the pool is balanced for hardness (calcium) as this can cause a corrosive water situation.
