Question:

My daughter is on the swim team and is in an indoor pool on a daily basis. I’ve noticed that the water can appear cloudy and there is a strong chlorine smell in the pool area. I’ve heard that a strong chlorine smell is actually not a good thing (unbalanced water), but I’m wondering if this applies to indoor pools?

Answer:

Absolutely this applies even more to indoor pools. You should not smell the chlorine as this indicates a higher level of combined chlorine (typically) or bad air circulation. Free chlorine (good, available chlorine) should smell fresh like the smell of chlorox bleach - very little odor.
