Question:
My chlorine is very low, and the PH is very high. What do I need to do? I’m a new pool owner and very confused. My pool was clear and now looks like mud after I scaled it and shocked it. I’m also concerned about shocking it again and back flushing the chemicals on the lawn.
Answer:
The chlorine low and pH high are both working against you on the cloudy water. Depending on the color of the water you may also have metals present that need to be removed (with a metal removing chemical). Lower the pH first, which will make your chlorine more effective when you add it. If your pH is too high, your chlorine will not work properly. Once pH is balanced, add chlorine shock in the appropriate dosage until you have an ok chlorine level. Keep the filter running and this should clear it up.
