Question:
i just bought a 12×30 Intex pool and filled it with water. The pump is running and i put in one 3 inch chlorine tablet into a floating dispenser. How long do we have to wait till the pool chlorine levels are normal? Do I have to put in any other chemicals?
Answer:
The tabs are designed to dissolve slowly and release chlorine into the water continuously. Testing the water is the best way to determine when the chlorine level is acceptable to swim. Often times when starting a new pool or reopening a pool for the season a shock dose (or several) is needed to establish a free chlorine level so that the tablets can then keep up with demand. Then test the water regularly 2-3 times a week and add more chlorine as needed based on demand, bather load, rain, etc.
