Question:

I ignored my pool for a while and the filter was even turned off in the intex above ground pool that I have…. there was leak and I had just had surgery so (blah blah blah). Anyhow, the salt water pool grew algae in this time. I have since filled the pool half way with new water, added salt and changed the filter. I have been using the vac to suck out the dead algae and it seems to be getting clearer and clearer. Will this be enough to rid of it? It gets cloudy when I use the vac, but each day I see less that has settled on the floor.

Answer:

Sounds like you are on the right path. Make sure to keep up with the filter maintenance (cleaning/backwashing) while you clean up is ongoing. You don't want algae sitting in your filter and helping to start a new bloom after you just cleaned it up. Also, shock will be your friend to help destroy any algae and make sure you have an established chlorine level.
