Sounds like you are doing the right things. It can take a couple days or more depending on what is causing the cloudy water. Check the pH level as well to make sure it is in the right range to keep things in solution. Also, definitely keeping the filter clean is important to getting any suspended particles out of the water and not retransmitting the algae back in.
